All Saints’ Day: A Call to Everyday Sainthood
All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1st, is a feast day in the Catholic Church honoring all of the saints, both known and unknown. It’s a day to remember those who have lived exemplary lives, following the teachings of Jesus Christ and serving as models of holiness. But the celebration of All Saints’ Day extends beyond mere remembrance; it’s a call to every Catholic to strive for sainthood in their own lives.
The Beatitudes, found in the Sermon on the Mount, provide a blueprint for living a holy life. These nine blessings, pronounced by Jesus, offer guidance on how to follow His teachings and become a saint. They call us to be poor in spirit, to mourn, to be meek, to hunger and thirst for righteousness, to be merciful, to be pure in heart, to be a peacemaker, and to be persecuted for righteousness’ sake.
While sainthood may seem like an unattainable goal for many, the Beatitudes remind us that it’s not about extraordinary feats or miracles. Instead, it’s about living a simple, humble, and loving life. It’s about being kind to others, forgiving our enemies, and striving for justice. It’s about putting God first in our lives and following His will.
On All Saints’ Day, we are encouraged to look to the saints as examples of what is possible when we live according to the Beatitudes. But we are also reminded that sainthood is not something that happens overnight. It’s a journey that requires patience, perseverance, and a deep commitment to our faith.
By embracing the Beatitudes and striving to live a holy life, we can become everyday saints. We can be a light in the world, inspiring others to follow Christ and making a positive difference in the lives of those around us.
Join us at one of the ten masses in the Eternal Flame Catholic Community to celebrate the extraordinary … and everyday … Saints in our lives.
