7th & 8th Grade Play
The 7th and 8th Grade play is the perfect opportunity to express creative freedom. Production usually begins in November with performances in the Spring.
Altar Servers
Altar servers help assist a member of the clergy during a Christian religious service, and this is a fantastic way for young people to participate more actively in the mass and make a meaningful contribution to both the mass and their congregation. During a 2015 address, Pope Francis urged youth to serve at the altar, saying that it allows them “to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them.” In addition, students develop greater responsibility, maturity, attention to detail, and flexibility.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students who read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge on what they have read.
Chorus
Chorus features students from 5th through 8th grade from SS. Peter & Paul School who sing at various Church and School events, as well as concerts throughout the year. The chorus usually meets Tuesday mornings for practice.
Math Bowl/Quiz Bowl
Students put their knowledge with Math to the test. A group/team assembles to demonstrate their abilities against other schools.
National Junior Honor Society
SSPP is proud to offer membership in The National Junior Honor Society, an esteemed organization principled around five pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. The NJHS not only recognizes students for accomplishments in these areas, but also encourages them to become more actively involved in their school and community.
To this end, in addition to academic requirements, the students are required to take part in service projects. Examples of these projects include:
- putting together Christmas stockings for SSPP Outreach Center to help local families in need
- holding Bake Sales to help fund various school projects such as the Christmas Stocking project, the School Play, and other extra-curricular activities
- serving as Student Tour Guides for Open House
Student selected must hold an overall grade point average of 94.0 or higher throughout 6th grade in order to be inducted into NJHS in 7th grade. Students need to maintain the 94.0 or higher to remain a member.
