Community Service is a tenet of Catholic Social Teaching and has biblical roots (James 2:14-17, Galatians 6:10, Deuteronomy 24:19). It’s also a way to meet others, enjoy new experiences, and form a sense of community. Most of the work done at a parish is done by volunteers! Community service for youth helps families see how a parish works. Service is both parish focused and community focused, meaning we emphasize serving within the parish with parish events and parish sponsored events, but any way you can serve the community, through another church, through Scouts, or anything that is truly serving others, can be counted as service credit. If you ever have a question of what will be considered for service credit, just ask.
